Expert remedial work, crafted with precision
External timber window sills are among the most vulnerable parts of any joinery, constantly exposed to rain, sun and temperature changes. Over time this leads to rot, splitting, paint failure and water ingress that can damage the surrounding masonry and internal decoration.
At Malbrook Joinery we specialise in the sympathetic repair and replacement of decayed window sills on period and modern properties alike. Rather than removing the entire window, we carefully assess the extent of the damage and carry out targeted, long-lasting repairs that preserve as much of the original timber and character as possible.
Where the rot is localised, we expertly splice in new sections using traditional scarf joints and marine-grade epoxy resins for an invisible, structurally sound repair. When full replacement is required, we handcraft new sills to the exact original profile, complete with authentic nosings, water drips and weather grooves, using durable hardwoods such as European oak, Accoya or Sapele.
Every repair is finished with our proven multi-coat microporous paint system (or oil finish for oak) that allows the timber to breathe while providing decades of protection. We also upgrade glazing seals and ironmongery during the works to eliminate draughts and future problems.
